HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Coot Club Forever

Coot Club is the first book in the Swallows and Amazons canon based on Broadland waters and was published by Arthur Ransome in 1934.

The Ransome family had many deep links with Norfolk and made lasting friendships in the Hoveton and Wroxham area.

The endearing story involves local and visiting children battling to protect nesting birds like the eponymous coots from the waves of wash created by new motor cruisers that were increasing in numbers on the rivers.

At the top centre of the exciting book cover is shown the old lack tarred Granary building store by Wroxham Bridge drawn by Ransome's own hand ~ at a time when the riverside staithe was a multifunctional working space.
