HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Crossing the causeway

Norwich Road meets Abbey Road in Hoveton~Wroxham. Today the highway has like many others evolved into a rat run for creatures of frantic habits. According to Andy Nunn, a genuine native bristling with knowledge ~ a very old causeway with foundations of willow faggots lays under the seemingly unchangeable tarmacadam. Even with renewed drainage and more layers added flood waters periodically seap up.

One of the unexpected joys in Hoveton and Wroxham is going to the laundry in the daytime. Patrons come far and wide to use the laundry on stilts by Wroxham Bridge. The company is eclectic and usually jolly, while the conversation sparkles with any number of subjects covered, punctuated with good humour. As the shiny machines revolve, the ever cheerful and conscientious boss lady Lesley greets all with universal friendliness.

As well as doing ship's laundry we helped cart bags of lifejackets over to Wroxham Launch Hire in Hoveton.
