Detail of the mahogany fo'c'sle door jamb with brass strike plate, where the spring~loaded ball catch mechanism slots into. It still works after nearly a 100 years.
The lacquer on the doorway has blistered like much of the varnished joinery in the houseboat cabin. Its been suggested by professional builders and restorers that bubbling under the lacquer occured in damp condition swhen the wood wasn't sanded between recoating.
