Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Dashing ducks


A trio of mallard ducks including a beautiful electric green hybrid have been visiting Granary Staithe in Hoveton St John every day of late. The duck gang innocently waddled over the usually hectic High Street. Miraculously the highway was devoid of thunderous vehicles.

Luckily, eagle eyed Lou and Boundy of the delightful A Slice of The Broads Cafe saw the ducks in peril and herded them down the shingled loke leading to King's Staithe ~ and back to the river at Wroxham Launch Hire quay using a seasonal waterfowl food pouch.

This is yet another close escape for waterfowl on the immediate Hoveton side of Wroxham Bridge. No action has been forthcoming for any form of traffic calming, or for hazard signage renewal. At this point of time, is the road crossing safe for man, beast or bird...
