The Beehive ~ the attractive thatched house on stilts pictured on the right, flanking the River Bure and Daisy Broad is on the market.
Atop is a weather vane bearing a customary beehive ~ the old emblem of the Press family, a local dynasty of boat builders and watermen.
The much admired house is a perfect representation of traditional Broadland buildings which began to spring up by the waterways in the 19th century. The rusticated style most likely stems from romanticised 'cottage orne' fashion of architecture used on country estates and elsewhere in the early 1800s.
