HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Gateway of Broadland had flare

📷 Julia Grossmith~Mason with grandson Martin Deltrice in fashionable flared jeans stand by the River Bure in Wroxham, 1975. The row of houseboats are kept by the renowned boat yard Porter and Haylett Ltd.

Martin's family loved Hoveton and Wroxham so much they regulary came from Sunderland, County Durham for well over fifty years.

During the 1970s, the villages were alive with an electric range of places for recreation and appetising outlets like Samantha's Kitchen by the bridge and the Broads Hotel (high peaked building pictured in the background) on Station Road. Watercraft of every description were welcomed at a much broader range of boat moorings. Broadland was also influenced by the explosion of extravagant artistic expression: there was new clothing, poster designs, music, film and theatre.

More to follow...

If you remember Wroxham and Hoveton in the 1970s decade please share your recollections.

Chris
