HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

There will be floods

We're adapting (as are the wildfowl, both real and synthetic) to the seasonal higher water levels on the Hoveton riverside. The rivers usually rise naturally during cooler months, however flooding can also happen when spring tides occur, when there is a full moon ~ and the difference between high and low water is greater. Care should be taken anywhere near the water and it is always advisable to wear sturdy waterproof footwear at all times.

Many things are much improved today, as drainage pumps and sluices and many flood defences are managed by state of the art technology. Most of the marshland buildings have also been raised up, meaning boat yard staff for example no longer have to work with machines and other equipment in a constant depth of river water.
