HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Revamp of the hull

Following an in~depth survey of the houseboat by European Marine Services, the exemplary team at EC Landamore and Company's boat yard serviced the hull. This entailed the entire outer hull body being cleaned and when dry, applied with high grade anti~fouling paint underneath ~ coatings that preserve the teak timber and prevent weed and other mollusca (underwater creatures). Finally the sides, above the waterline were painted in a water based flexible cream gloss.

This essential maintenance helps protect the historic structure of a singularly characterful vessel. Heather has been in regular use since she was launched around 1900 and is one of most venerable houseboats in existence.

Now begins renewal of the compact interior space, which has been decidedly scruffy for some time. Heating, services, health and safety equipment and accessibility will be updated. The woodwork will also be replenished and fresh furnishings added ~ making Heather much more practical for visitors.
