HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Sole work

Ill fitting, warped and worn out floor (sole) boards on the houseboat have been repaired by skilled carpenter Garry. In the fo'c'sle, salvaged pine planks were cleated together with bronze screws and arranged in a flared sunrise pattern, fitting the half hexagonal size of the floor space. These boards replace the previous awkward plywood panels, fitted in the early 1990s, which were very wobbly to walk on.

All of the improvements are carefully considered in terms of authenticity and longevity, as well the correct selection of materials. To prevent rot and fungicides, all bare woodwork from the bilges up is being cleaned and dowsed in a water based solution.
