HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

No cross to bear

A carving of Jesus crucified in English oak (Quercus robur) ~ around 10 inches high by 7 inches wide. The oval plaque was handmade in King's Lynn sometime in the late nineteenth century by a relative of Wroxham native and master waterman Andrew Nunn.

Members of Andy's extensive family worked on merchant sail ships operating from the Port of Lynn. It is possible this piece is a bit of spare timberwork used in ship construction. Deep held faith in Christianity, including the creation of religious idolatry was a preoccupation in the Victorian era.
