HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Whispering orienteering ducks

Mini yellow toy ducklings from the riverside booths end up in all corners of the globe. One was found head down on a workshop roof by Station Road in Hoveton. A piece of angling paraphernalia or a boat hook is always useful to salvage such things.

Soulful John Shilton, (former Wroxham resident turned touring truck dweller ~ now settled upon the convivial island of Sri Lanka (once known as Ceylon to tea lovers) made an impromptu video call while I was on walkabout on Granary Plaza by the bridge. With perfect comic timing John produced his souvenir duck Fáinne.

Footnote ~ The curious phrase "Chinese Whispers" came about from an amusing party game originating in the mid 20th century. Scraps of paper bearing 'whispered' messages were passed around a group. When the legend arrived back at the source, it was moreoften quite different from the original script. Interestingly the parlour game had previously been called "Russian Whispers" or "Russian Scandal". Innocent games can multiply and take on a whole new lease of life; sometimes in macabre ways for example ~ on the world wide web, or echoing around village thoroughfares, taverns and the like.
