HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Greylag Goose Booth

Our newest addition to the water bird food service is a quirky trolley booth located on a leafy corner of Hoveton Riverside Walk. The Greylag Goose Booth was informally opened by Hovetonian Christine accompanied by Bobby.

Remarkably, the upper part of trolley was constructed mostly by eye by skilled welder and joiner Richard over several months. Richard started with a two tiered flat trolley and added a cabin with windows and hatches. This configuration was decided upon as a preventative measure for pigeons who occasionally swoop down and peck at the food packaging. Please note: our blended dried food is especially formulated for waterfowl.

Previously, a number of quite small metal and timber buildings, including shops were sited around the Hoveton and Wroxham waterside. We took inspiration from these outlets ~ and the various kinds of wheeled vehicles which traded wares on the village streets in the past.

The booth has a low counter like most of Heather's outlets. This vantage point is more accessible for children and people with mobility and sensory impairments. The panels flanking the booth will be used for interpretation about wildlife, useful information about the area ~ as well as news and happenings on the Upper River Bure, such as bird sightings.
