HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Muck and bling

The slightly motley and madcap houseboat team helped jet wash some of the waterside deck boards around Hotel Wroxham. When dried, a coat of wood protector lacquer was applied to the walkways.

Just over fifty years ago this site was grassed banks with slipways leading to the famed Jack Powles and Company main boat yard sheds. Above the attractive gabled buildings were big letters spelling out the company name in real bling style.

The area immediately behind this was open and had an 'un~made' cinder and gravel surface ~ there were precious few substantial buildings. Recent maintenence to services on the edge of Riverside Road has revealed layers of hard~core under the modern tarmacadam. Ancient black mud is at the bottom, recalling when the area was wild watery fen.

Where Riverside Centre now stands a travelling fairground run by Mr "Rhubarb" set up show for several days each summer.

🚩If you remember Jack Powles, the riverside area in Hoveton and the fair, please share your recollections.
