HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Lore of the Svanr

The other week a female mute swan was spotted on the riverside walk in Hoveton with a big gash above the rounded knob on her head, known as the 'lore'. This strange injury may have occured by accident on say a protruding piece of wood, or by direct conflict with another swan.

Midgard Barbers kindly let us keep the swan in their back yard which opens onto King's Staithe; before Paul came and whisked her away to sanctuary. She was treated and is well on the way to recovery.

Broadland has deep connections to Scandinavia. 'Midgard' in old Norse mythology means middle earth where humans dwell. Similarly swans or 'svanrs' feature in many Scandinavian legends.
