HEATHER

Welcome to Heather

Houseboat of character, docked in Hoveton by the River Bure on the Norfolk Broads Waterways.

Heather is cared for by a partnership of friends and family. Our aim is to preserve the distinctive style of the houseboat and enable future generations to enjoy her charms.

Explore the riverside, browse the shops and places to eat and drink ~ and much more beyond monumental Wroxham Bridge.

Three Erics' seat

A mini project we're working on is a traditional bench seat with scrolled metal ends at King's Staithe, Hoveton. The seat is in rememberance of Eric, a dear gentleman who worked after his retirement at Wroxham Launch Hire, during part of Russell Marines' time. Sit and unwind by the river and soak up pleasant vibes.

The seat is also a memorial for two other great Erics ~ Mr E Walter Crawshaw~Simpson, Chris's beloved grandfather by default from Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales ~ and the sublime John Eric Bartholomew aka Morecambe ~ wit, bird lover and mariner.

Seats of this kind were a common sight around town and country; when there was perhaps more thought about design and elegance. Similar benches were placed on the foredeck of pleasure wherries, either side of the tabernacle.

I don't believe in reincarnation, but I did in my previous life.
